The Twisted Pro™ Big Block E4OD is our heavy-duty 500 HP build for Ford big-block-pattern gas applications.
The Pro steps up from our Street build with increased forward and direct clutch capacity, a 45-element intermediate sprag, new overdrive sprag, later-design pump, and the TransGo 4R100-HD2 Tugger valve-body setup.
This build is for heavier trucks, regular towing and hauling, RV and motorhome applications, and modified big-block combinations that need more holding capacity than the Street build.
Rated up to 500 HP.
New high-energy performance friction plates throughout.
New steel plates throughout.
Forward clutch is set up for increased capacity over the stock configuration.
Direct clutch is set up for additional holding capacity under load.
New heavy-duty intermediate band.
The intermediate one-way clutch is upgraded to a 45-element sprag for increased holding capacity under load.
New overdrive one-way clutch / sprag assembly.
New bushings installed during the rebuild.
Bearings and thrust washers are inspected and replaced as required.
The Big Block Pro uses the TransGo 4R100-HD2 Tugger, built for E4OD / 4R100 applications that regularly tow, haul and work under load.
The Tugger includes:
✔️ Pressure regulator boost valve
✔️ Line regulator valve
✔️ Quick-fill valve
✔️ Low / reverse modulator boost valve
✔️ Line-to-lube update
✔️ Increased converter feed
✔️ High-temperature direct clutch seal
✔️ Updated direct clutch sealing
✔️ Heavy-duty coast-clutch snap ring
✔️ OD housing spiral-lock snap ring
✔️ Adjustable shift firmness
The valve body is cleaned, checked and set up for positive shifts under load without making a tow truck or motorhome unnecessarily harsh to drive.
The Tugger increases low-clutch holding pressure in manual first for better holding power and engine braking when pulling a load downhill.
The correct E4OD solenoid pack is matched to the year and transmission configuration.
Solenoid operation is checked during the build. Failed or out-of-spec units are replaced.
Early and late E4OD solenoid packs are different, so the correct pack is used for the transmission being built.
The Pro gets the center-support and clutch-feed areas addressed during the build.
These areas are corrected before the increased-capacity clutch packs are installed and set up.
The Pro does not use the early low-output E9/F1 pump configuration.
Later F5/F8-style pump assembly used for the Pro build.
The pump is torn down, checked and set up before installation.
Every reusable hard part is cleaned and checked before assembly.
We inspect:
✔️ Forward Drum
✔️ Direct Drum
✔️ Coast Clutch Drum
✔️ Center Support
✔️ Input Shaft
✔️ Intermediate Shaft
✔️ Output Shaft
✔️ Forward Planetary
✔️ Overdrive Planetary
✔️ Reverse Planetary
✔️ Sun Gear & Shell
Anything worn, cracked, damaged or out of specification is replaced.
The Pro includes a heavy-duty lockup converter matched to the actual engine and vehicle combination.
Converter setup is based on:
A factory 7.5L / 460 tow truck and a modified 429 or stroker 460 do not automatically use the same converter.
We match the converter to the application.
For big-block towing, hauling, RV, motorhome and modified applications, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND upgrading to our:
✔️ Adds approximately 5–7.5 quarts of fluid capacity
✔️ Finned cast-aluminum construction
✔️ Magnetic drain plug
✔️ Temperature-sender port where applicable
✔️ Additional fluid capacity for better heat control
Exact pan and added capacity vary by application.
For towing, hauling, RV, motorhome and regular heavy-load use:
The cooler and cooler lines must be flushed and checked for unrestricted flow before installation.
If the previous transmission put metal or clutch material into the cooling system, replace the contaminated cooler.
A transmission-temperature gauge is strongly recommended for RVs, motorhomes and trucks that regularly tow.
This transmission uses the Ford big-block / 385-series E4OD bellhousing pattern.
