The Twisted Street™ Big Block E4OD is our 400 HP build for Ford big-block-pattern gas applications.
This transmission uses the Ford 385-series big-block E4OD case, originally found behind the 7.5L / 460 in Ford truck and heavy-duty applications.
The same bellhousing pattern can also be used with compatible 351M, 400, 370, 429 and 385-series-based engine combinations when the rest of the swap is set up correctly.
The Street is built for stock and mildly modified big-blocks, work trucks, towing, RVs, motorhomes and street-driven swaps that don't need the billet hard parts used in our higher-horsepower builds.
Rated up to 400 HP.
New high-energy friction plates throughout.
New steel plates throughout.
Forward and direct clutch packs are set up for the big-block E4OD application with clutch clearance checked during assembly.
Intermediate sprag and races are inspected and replaced as required.
Overdrive one-way clutch is inspected and replaced as required.
New bushings installed during the rebuild.
Bearings and thrust washers are inspected and replaced as required.
Every Twisted Street™ Big Block E4OD gets a brand-new transmission pan with drain plug.
We do not reuse the old pan.
The Street uses the TransGo SK E4OD to correct common E4OD pressure, shift, converter-feed and lube problems.
Includes:
✔️ Pressure regulator boost valve
✔️ Line regulator valve
✔️ 1-2 shift valve spring
✔️ Line-to-lube update
✔️ High-temperature direct clutch seal
✔️ Updated direct clutch outer seal
✔️ Heavy-duty coast-clutch snap ring
✔️ OD housing spiral-lock snap ring
✔️ Converter feed / charge updates
The valve body is cleaned, checked and set up for positive shifts without making a heavy street truck, tow rig or motorhome shift like a race transmission.
The correct E4OD solenoid pack is matched to the year and transmission configuration.
Solenoid operation is checked during the build. Failed or out-of-spec units are replaced.
Early and late E4OD solenoid packs are different, so the correct pack is used for the transmission being built.
The center support and case are checked closely during teardown.
✔️ Center Support Checked for Wear
✔️ Case Lugs Checked at Center Support
✔️ Center Support Sealing Checked
✔️ Intermediate Clutch Feed Checked
✔️ Direct Clutch Feed Checked
✔️ Applicable E4OD Updates Installed
A worn center-support area can cause clutch-feed leaks, case wear and low lube flow. These areas are checked and corrected during the rebuild.
The pump is completely torn down and rebuilt.
✔️ Pump Body Inspected
✔️ Stator Support Inspected
✔️ New Pump Bushing
✔️ Pump Gears Inspected
✔️ Worn Pump Gears Replaced
✔️ Pump Clearances Reset
✔️ Pressure Regulator Checked & Updated
✔️ Converter Feed / Lube Updates
Early E9/F1 pump assemblies are updated to the later F5/F8 pump design where required.
Every reusable hard part is cleaned and checked before assembly.
We inspect:
✔️ Forward Drum
✔️ Direct Drum
✔️ Coast Clutch Drum
✔️ Center Support
✔️ Input Shaft
✔️ Intermediate Shaft
✔️ Output Shaft
✔️ Forward Planetary
✔️ Overdrive Planetary
✔️ Reverse Planetary
✔️ Sun Gear & Shell
Anything worn, cracked, damaged or out of specification is replaced.
The Street includes a heavy-duty lockup converter matched to the actual engine and vehicle combination.
Converter setup is based on:
A factory 7.5L / 460 replacement and a 429 or stroker big-block conversion are not automatically the same converter setup.
We match the converter to the application instead of using one converter for every big-block E4OD.
The Twisted Street™ Big Block E4OD comes standard with a NEW transmission pan with drain plug.
For big-block trucks, towing, RVs, motorhomes and other heavy applications, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND upgrading to our:
✔️ Adds approximately 5–7.5 quarts of fluid capacity
✔️ Finned cast-aluminum construction
✔️ Magnetic drain plug
✔️ Temperature-sender port where applicable
✔️ Additional fluid capacity for better heat control
Exact pan and added capacity vary by application.
For towing, hauling, RV, motorhome and regular heavy-load use:
The cooler and cooler lines must be flushed and checked for unrestricted flow before installation.
If the previous transmission put metal or clutch material into the cooling system, replace the contaminated cooler.
A transmission-temperature gauge is strongly recommended for RVs, motorhomes and trucks that regularly tow.
This transmission uses the Ford big-block / 385-series E4OD bellhousing pattern.
Primarily Ford vehicles originally equipped with the:
Including applicable:
The big-block-pattern E4OD can also be built for compatible:
For conversion applications, the transmission itself is only part of the swap.
Converter, flexplate, engine balance, starter, transmission controller, crossmember, driveshaft, output shaft and vehicle wiring may need to be addressed depending on the combination.
The Big Block E4OD uses the Ford 385-series bellhousing pattern, NOT the FE pattern.
It does NOT directly bolt to Ford FE-series engines including:
An adapter would be required for an FE application.
Before we build the transmission, we need:
E4ODs changed throughout production. Case, electronics, valve body, output shaft and other parts have to match the application.
