Build the Drivetrain You Want
Connecting an engine, transmission or transfer case that wasn't originally designed to work together? Twisted Torque offers engine-to-transmission adapters, transmission-to-transfer-case adapters, adapter plates and flexplates for custom swaps, classic vehicles, trucks, 4x4s and performance builds.
Building a custom drivetrain often means combining an engine and transmission that were never offered together from the factory. Engine-to-transmission adapters and adapter plates provide the connection needed to mate compatible engine and transmission combinations while maintaining proper alignment throughout the drivetrain.
Depending on the application, a conversion may require more than the adapter plate itself. A complete setup can also involve a flexplate, crankshaft spacer or adapter, torque converter provisions, starter components, dowels and installation hardware. Always review the individual product listing to determine exactly what is included and what additional components are required.
For trucks, Jeeps, 4x4s and off-road builds, changing the transmission can also change how it connects to the transfer case. Transmission-to-transfer-case adapters allow compatible transmissions and transfer cases to be combined when the factory mounting configuration does not match.
Correct fitment can depend on the transmission model, 2WD or 4WD configuration, output shaft, spline count, transfer case model and input configuration. Those details matter, so verify the complete drivetrain combination before ordering. Current swap discussions demonstrate exactly why spline count and output configuration need to be checked rather than assuming an adapter alone makes every combination compatible.
The flexplate connects the engine crankshaft to the automatic transmission's torque converter and also provides the ring gear used by the starter. In many non-factory transmission swaps, the correct flexplate is an essential part of making the engine, torque converter and transmission work together.
Some adapter systems use a specially designed flexplate, crank spacer or torque-converter pilot, while others retain more factory-style components. Always match the flexplate to the specific engine, transmission, torque converter and adapter combination.
Whether you're putting a modern automatic behind a classic engine, upgrading the transmission in a 4x4, building a restomod or creating a drivetrain combination the factory never offered, the right adapter components can make the project possible.
